The Supply 2011: A Year in Review
The Supply 2011: A Year in Review
2011 was a tremendous year for The Supply. Please join us in looking back at not only what we did this past year, but what YOU did.

We now look excitedly ahead to 2012 in which we hope to develop new fundraising campaigns and raise even more awareness so that we could begin building more secondary schools and empowering even more slum communities around the world.

Starting on January 1, we are committed to dedicating 100% of all online donations to our field projects as we aim to finish our school in Lenana in June 2012 and begin construction on two new sites. In 2012, we will introduce the evaluation results of our unique S.L.U.M.S program that will re-affirm the importance of education in these slums, our work in tthem, and the battle against apathy in combatting the cycle of poverty. You can find out more information about our programs at http://thesupply.org

We are asking for not only individual donors this next year, but partners who will be invested in the work we do. The best way is to join our recurring $8/month recurring campaign. (http://thesupply.org/donate) All funds will go directly to all of our programs on the field.

Together, you, us, and our children in the slum, we can all be the supply and start to see real transformation happen.

The Supply: Empowerment Through Service
The Supply: Empowerment Through Service
The Supply moves Lenana to participate in a trash pick up community service activity.

Students, teachers, and the entire community came together to fight the apathy and lack of social responsibility that often plagues slums and perpetuates the structural deficiencies in them.

As we work together to transform these slums, our innovative solution, the S.L.U.M.S service learning education program will incorporate community service as one of its key components to allow students to understand their civic responsibilities and empower them to make change. Find out more info about the slum issue, our work, and the S.L.U.M.S program at http://thesupply.org

In 2011, The Supply Education Group is committed to building Lenana's first-ever community secondary school.

This school will service the most needy -- orphans and slum children -- providing affordable education for them and advancing their educational pursuits.

Since 1999, DYC has been the only community primary school available for these students. But we are excited to construct this secondary school in partnership with DYC and the Lenana community.

Help us by Donating today!

The Story of Saul: The Gatekeeper
The Story of Saul: The Gatekeeper
This is the story of Saul, gatekeeper of DYC Primary School.

During the month of October The Supply staff took a trip to Lenana to film their documentary "Standard 8." However, one night the team was approached by a group of muggers with machetes and guns. Saul stepped up and protected us from the group of muggers. Risking his life not only for our staff but for the hope of education.

Unfortunately all our equipment was taken away from us that night. But what wasn't gone was our story and with that story we were once again reassured with why we fight for the children of Lenana.

He is one of the many staff members at DYC that fight hard for the education of these children. Together we believe that change can happen. That transformation begins through education.

Pencil of Hope
Pencil of Hope
In Lenana, something as simple as a pencil is scarce. So in order to have it available for all the students, teachers end up breaking a whole pencil into 3 different pieces to give out to each student. Although their village may be broken, and their resources limited, there is hope that comes from these pencils. We believe in all of our students and know that with education each of them can write their future.

We are all the supply.

Who is The Supply?
Who is The Supply?
Supply does not meet demand. Supply meets supply. Education has the power to change lives and transform communities. However, a harsh reality exists: many children around the world do not have access to basic education. We're talking slum children, orphans, refugee children, and sex trafficked girls. We believe if we can provide educational opportunities for these oppressed children, they can realize their full human potential and become the supply in their own communities, enacting great change. They will be empowered individuals who see education the way we see it: a call to action. We are all the supply.

The Supply + KevJumba, Pt. 3
Episode 3 to the new series of shorts featuring Kevjumba and his experience in Kenya.

Thank you to all you who supported us during the Kevjumba Birthday Campaign (http://thesupply.org/) With your help we raised $7,134 to fund building a secondary school in Lenana.
*****************************
On May 9th KevJumba partnered with The Supply Education Group and took a trip out to Lenana, Kenya. As an organization we were thrilled to have him meet our kids and to learn more about the difficulties slum children have in receiving a proper education.

Throughout the next 4 weeks we will be releasing short videos on his experience out there. Look forward to watching him teach a class, learn about their culture, and interact with the kids. Through these short pieces, we hope to bring a face to our cause, a voice to this community, and a belief that anyone can make a difference.

This is Kevjumba's story, and how he is giving back to a community that now considers him family.

Class 5: One Textbook
Class 5: One Textbook
You all know class 5 as the bright energetic class that danced for Kevjumba. But did you know that not everyone in this class has a textbook. In fact. there is only one textbook available for this whole class. So how do they learn? How do they share? How do they study?

They do this by working together. By having one student copy each lesson from the textbook on to the chalkboard. You see, these students make their own textbooks. They may not have been fortunate enough to be given one... But they will make sure to do whatever it takes to have one. This is their hunger to learn. Because they believe in what education can do for them.

You've seen how bright they are...You've seen the dancing and the laughing. But now see, why we believe there is so much hope for this one community. Why we believe change can happen

Because we know, that in the future...they too...will soon become the supply.
