Secondary Schools
We are working to build 100 new community secondary schools in slum communities by 2020. For many of these communities, these will serve as their first ever secondary schools.
The Costs
Most of our schools cost $50,000 USD or less to build. The costs include:
- Government Certification Fees
- Land Title Fees
- Architecture Drawing and Engineering Fees
- Materials
- Labor
We participate in a rigorous process to identify and hire the best yet affordable, local architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure a safety and quality.
Our Supply Schools
Our schools are initially designed to have five classrooms and one administrative room. They come fully equipped with:
- Glass windows
- Locks for safety
- Latrines and proper sanitation system
- Thick walls to limit sound from other classrooms
- Proper roofing and gutters to eliminate risk of flooding
In addition, we provide the initial furniture (desks, chairs, chalkboards) for all of the classrooms.
Passing the keys
Once they are built and students are enrolled, The Supply simply serves in an advisory capacity. The keys are handed over to the community. The school leaders will enroll students at a determined tuition rate, hire quality teachers, and operate the day-to-day activities of the school according to the state curriculum standards.
Our Goals
By 2020, The Supply hopes to provide 100 slums with new secondary schools. These schools will service hundreds of thousands of students, educating and raising the new generation of community leaders.
